Kangana Ranaut

It was the summer of 2006 when a pretty, frizz-haired girl appeared on the silver screen. Her role seemed as unconventional as her looks. She made a conversation about alcoholism, celebrating womanhood and became the girl we found good even when she was bad.  Despite of not working with big names like Dharma Productions and Yash Raj, the girl is rubbing shoulders with the top Bollywood actresses today! 11 years down the line and Kangana Ranaut has surprised us umpteen times with both her real and reel life.

Speaking openly about her love life

In an industry where speaking about your personal life is not considered acceptable, Kangana raised eyebrows when she spoke openly about her love affair with Hrithik Roshan which was only confined to closed doors. The battle got murkier with every passing day and even reached courtrooms but the Queen stood her ground and unabashedly spoke her side of the story without the fear of being judged.

Challenging nepotism

In one of the most renowned shows, Kangana challenged the issue of nepotism in Bollywood. She called Karan Johar “ the flagbearer of nepotism” which stirred many debates. Both good and bad has been written about this but we have to give it to Kangana to having started a conversation about this potent issue amongst the press and the Bollywood fraternity.

Boldly addressing the equal play issue

The lady has never shied away from speaking about pay discrimination in Bollywood. The National Award winning actress Kangana Ranaut on Thursday said she will “make sure” someday the divide between men and women in Bollywood in terms of paychecks is bridged. That makes us want to applaud her for addressing the negatives and then turning them into positives.

Turning down beauty endorsements

The unrealistic standards of beauty framed by TV commercials is not uncommon. A number of Bollywood faces have endorsed these and made big, fat bucks. However, Kangana has shattered the stereotype but turning down all such beauty endorsements which thrive on beauty stereotypes and show a man and woman that they have to look a particular type to fit in the society.

Fighting it off equal

The girl can fight off equal with the who’s who of the industry without budging an inch. Whether it is a legal battle with Hrithik Roshan or a face-off with Karan Johar, Kangana has spoken her mind and fought it off equal. She has never minced words or been a people-pleaser. Keeping it real is not something everyone can pull off.  So kudos to the girl!

They say be whom you want to be and not what others want to see. Happy Birthday to the girl who has been the best example of this!
