The wait has ended and winter is finally here! HBO’s popular series Game of Thrones premiered the first episode of season 7 on Sunday and we must say the episode has set the bar much higher for the race for the iron throne. The fact that the first episode has smashed all the records is a proof that the game is only going to get bloodier and better.

While the first episode follows no particular order: a girl murdering a room full of people, Jon asking one and all to fight against the dead, the Hound believing in something and Sansa, well she is just the usual. However, there is one thing that has sent the Twitterati into a crazy frenzy of making memes and new lyrics- the Westrosi debut of the man who gave the world, “Shape of you.”

The makers have a perfect setting for inducing the cameo in the plot. It all starts with a song. A sweet girl turned ruthless assassin Arya Stark has just taken her bitter sweet revenge. The ‘Winterfell girl’ has just killed all those of the House Frey who had slaughtered her family at the Red Wedding and is riding through the quiet forests of the Riverlands.

In the near distance, there is music and a man singing, “…For hands of gold are always cold but a woman’s hands are warm.”

Arya intrigued at hearing the song follows trail of the voice to find Lannister soldiers gathered around a campfire. The singer himself is a red head. Oh wait, that is Ed Sheeran.

In the show, Ed Sheeran can be seen sharing meat with Arya and other Lannister soldiers, wherein Arya reveals that she is going to Kings Landing to kill the queen. The cameo, however, has received mixed responses. Twitter had a field day with all the jokes making round on the internet.

Here are some of them:

Ed Sheeran fans were definitely happy seeing him share screen space with Maisie Williams (Arya) as she was the one who inspired the makers to have the cameo. However, there were many who were not very happy and were very vocal about it on Twitter.

After the trailer of the second episode hinted that Arya would be united with Nymeria, some even said that hoped Sheeran was killed by Nymeria.

These negative reactions have left Ed Sheeran frustrated. The singer had decided that Twitter is not worth it and has deleted his account following the negative remarks. This is not the first time that Sheeran has gone off Twitter.

All we can say is that Twitter isn’t the best place to go for Ed!
